Botany Downs: 1 Cockle Bay School: 1
The day started well with brilliant sunshine and clear skies. Thunderstorms and lightning were forecast, but the fine weather proved to last all day and thankfully the game with Botany Downs went ahead. The game was a fiercely competed affair with both teams going in hard with strong but fair tackling. This included Huw D, a Year 3 student, who has been involved with the school team from the beginning of the season. Cockle Bay scored first after four minutes, with a superb build up from the mid-field. Trent T, the captain, passed the ball across field to Anusheel S, who was playing in the left wing position. He took on a defender and deftly curved the ball passed the goalkeeper. From then on Botany Downs put the pressure on. Not use to being one goal behind they came back with wave after wave of attacking football. Poor finishing and a very strong Cockle Bay defence prevented them from equalising in the first half. In the second half, Botany Downs kept the pressure on and scored after eight minutes. But Cockle Bay came back and narrowly missed out on a goal scoring opportunity from Anusheel S, who hit the woodwork with another curving left footed shot. A great performance from all players and a good result from the Cockle Bay's School Soccer Team. Well done! Thank you parents for supporting and transporting the players! ![]() ![]()
