Pupil Progess Presentations

PPPs (Pupil Progress Presentations) are an important part of mid year reporting at Cockle bay School.  These are structured interviews led by the child, where they outline in some detail their progress to date, learning goals and needs, and use their work in assorted forms to demonstrate progress.  We believe that children who take responsibility for their own learning and can talk about their progress throughout the year are more engaged in their learning.  Throughout the year learning outcomes are stated, with the children being able to target learning and report on their own progress.

Children also report their progress against the National Standards using cumulative grids  in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. These are completed by teachers every six months and are based on a variety of evidence

Each PPP is planned for 20 minutes, with more than one family in the classroom at a time. This approach has proven to be successful, making the child feel more comfortable by creating a less formal atmosphere.

During the course of the presentations, parents ask the child questions, or seek clarification of a point, without upsetting the continuity of the process.

The pupils have put in considerable work and effort so that they are quite au fait with their learning journey. As such, it is very important that on the day of the presentation they have someone to present to.  If a family member is unavailable, one of our senior management team members can ‘act as the parent'.  We  also ask that other siblings are not present at the presentation, so as to avoid any possible distractions.

Parents are welcome to take home any of their children's books to view at their leisure but should be returned to school the next day to enable work to continue.

At the end of the PPP, a copy of the Mid Year report, which has been completed by the classroom teacher is taken home.. All of the information contained in this will have been covered during the course of the presentation.

In some cases, the teacher may request that further discussions between parents and teacher are either necessary or in the best interests of the child. Likewise, if parents feel that they require teacher time, there are forms available in the class to book this time.
