International Student Information

Cockle Bay School welcomes enrolment applications from International Students but acceptance is dependent upon roll numbers. The school has a set maximum class size for each year of schooling and will only accept enrolments if the maximum class size in the year applied has not been reached. In accordance with the Education Standards Act 2001 no fee paying international student shall occupy a place in preference to an eligible domestic student. The international student must be living and continue to live with a parent or legal guardian while studying at our school.

A current passport must support all enrolment applications showing a current visitor or student visa is required before starting school.

Cockle Bay School does not organise Homestay accommodation.

Cockle Bay School has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students published by the Ministry of Education. Copies of the Code are available on request from this institution or from the New Zealand Ministry of Education website at

Educational Opportunities

The international student is placed into a mainstream classroom. There they are assessed and put into withdrawal groups depending on their level of English. They are included in as much of the normal classroom programme as possible so they have endless opportunities for hearing, seeing and experiencing language for interesting repetition and consolidation. The school offers support for maintenance of first languages, the curriculum and integration.
