'Rich Task'
Written by Merle Campbell
During week 4 and 5 of Term 4 the Kotuku Team have been forging a relationship with Year 7 students at Somerville Intermediate. It was Penned as a 'Rich Task' by Somerville Intermediate. This involved the students from Somerville Intermediate acting as mentors to our Year 4 students, teaching them a skill. The skills ranged from art and craft, dance or a sport. During week 4 the Somerville students visited Cockle Bay School to meet their 'students' and asked them a range of questions to get to know them. The next two sessions involved the Somerville mentors teaching and assessing their chosen skill. All lessons were planned and assessed by the Somerville mentors. On the final session, Cockle Bay walked up to Somerville Intermediate for a Prize giving Ceremony and afternoon tea. All Cockle Bay Students received a certificate for their participation in the 'Rich Task'
This was a highly rewarding experience for all the teachers and students involved. We hope to do it again in 2012.
On Tuesday the 22nd November the Somerville Sharks Cheerleading Squad performed at lunchtime to a large audience of Cockle Bay children.
We were amazed at the heights the girls were thrown and how confident the squad were.
