Yesterday was my first day at Cockle Bay School and I'm very excited to be meeting the school's community. I am looking forward to working with the children, parents and staff to improve the progress and achievement of all students and hope to develop positive team relationships with all groups. Cockle Bay School has a successful record and a great reputation and I look forward to being part of its continued development.
Over the coming weeks I hope there will be opportunities for you to smile and say hello if you see me. I want to learn what is happening here, your names and those of your children although I know this is quite a challenge. If you are one of those wonderful parents who gives special support to the school, please introduce yourself and tell me about your work.
Here is a little of my personal background to help you get to know me. My grandmother, mother and sister have all worked in education and so has my husband Ginty. My son Owen is an engineer working in central Auckland. I live locally and enjoy fishing, walking and N.Z. summers. My work experience has been in Auckland schools and in teacher education. I'm on the executive of the Howick and Pakuranga Principals' Association at present. I've been Principal at Bucklands Beach Primary for over 9 years and have just returned from China where I was on a principals' delegation to visit schools and learn about Chinese culture.
Yesterday morning Cockle Bay students, staff, BOT and parents gave me a great welcome at a special assembly.
Thanks everyone for this.
