STUDENT DRESS CODE
RATIONALE A sense of identity, belonging, pride and excellence among the children are significant factors in achieving our school’s vision. A code of dress has the potential to promote these favourable characteristics and move us closer to the realisation of our vision. PURPOSES • To ensure the children are appropriately dressed for a range of school activities. • To demonstrate a sense of identity and belonging at Cockle Bay School. • To alleviate competition in clothing among the children. • To provide a high quality model of dress that all children can achieve. • To promote safe and hygienic clothing sense. The school uniform is: Boys and Girls – all year 1. Regulation royal blue sweatshirt embroidered with “Cockle Bay School”, 2. AND/OR Regulation navy polar fleece vest embroidered with “Cockle Bay School - Strive On”, 3. AND/OR Regulation navy long-sleeved polar fleece embroidered with “Cockle Bay School - Strive On”. Boys Summer 1. Regulation navy drill shorts with “Cockle Bay School” embroidered on left side pocket. 2. Regulation short-sleeved royal blue polo shirt embroidered with “Cockle Bay School”. 3. Sandals – black. 4. Sunhat, wide brim in royal blue, for all outdoor activities to be worn during Terms 1 and 4. Also refer “Sun risk” Policy. Winter 1. Regulation navy drill shorts with “Cockle Bay School” embroidered on left side pocket, and worn with long/knee-length navy socks. 2. OR Regulation long navy drill cargo pants, “Cockle Bay School” embroidered on left side pocket and worn with navy socks. 3. Long or short sleeved regulation royal blue polo shirt embroidered with “Cockle Bay School”. 4. Black school shoes. Sneakers/sports shoes are not to be worn as uniform footwear. Girls Summer 1. Regulation dress in blue and white gingham with school badge attached on left side. 2. Sandals - black or navy, with low heel. 3. Sunhat, wide brim in royal blue, for all outdoor activities to be worn during Terms 1 and 4. Also refer “Sun risk” Policy. 4. Blue or black bicycle pants can be worn under the uniform provided they are not longer than the uniform. Winter 1. Year 0 - Year 3. a. Regulation tartan tunic with school badge attached on left side with white skivvy and white knee high socks or navy tights, b. OR Regulation long navy drill cargo pants, “Cockle Bay School” embroidered on left side pocket and worn with navy socks and white skivvy. 2. Year 4 - Year 6. a. Regulation tartan skirt and regulation white blouse embroidered with “Cockle Bay School” and white knee high socks or navy tights, b. OR Regulation long navy cargo pants, “Cockle Bay School” embroidered on left side pocket and worn with navy socks and regulation white blouse. 3. Black school shoes, no raised heels. Sneakers/sports shoes are not to be worn as uniform footwear. 4. Blue or black bicycle pants can be worn under the uniform provided they are not longer than the uniform. Note re girls’ winter uniform: The transition from tunic to skirt would be expected to occur in Year 4. However, we appreciate that the actual timing may depend on the girls’ development as well as family circumstances. The changeover from summer to winter uniform will usually be at the start of Term 2 with the changeover from winter to summer uniform at the start of Term 4. Sports/Fitness (For Girls and Boys, Years 3 – 6) 1. Regulation white polo shirt embroidered with “Cockle Bay School”, 2. Regulation blue taslon shorts, 3. Sports shoes. GUIDELINES 1. For safety reasons watches and stud earrings are the only jewellery permitted and are worn at the wearers own risk. 2. Long hair (i.e. shoulder length and longer for boys and girls) should be tied back for safety and learning reasons. Clips/ribbons etc. should be in the school colours. 3. The school uniform is to be worn correctly. A mixture of uniform and non-uniform items is unacceptable. 4. Children are expected to wear the uniform with pride. This requires a high standard of presentation with respect to both dress and hair. 5. Extremes of fashion are considered inappropriate. 6. The final decision on uniform and dress code matters will remain with the Principal who may inform parents/guardians when dress standards are not being met. 7. Parents will be polled on any major changes to the uniform. 8. The next scheduled review of the Uniform will be 2011. AVAILABILITY All regulation uniform items are available from John Russell Menswear, Moore St, Howick. Kitsets for the girls summer uniform are available from either the school office or the Secondhand uniform shop. Second hand uniform items are available from the Cockle Bay School uniform shop.
